Not as warm as usual as rain clouds are heading in and preventing the sun from heating things up. Good news was there was very little wind. Headed back to St Johns River and went south on Rt 13. Road twisted quite a bit as it follows the meandering river. Most of the river section is in the woods and makes for good low traffic riding. Kept traveling south until hitting SR 207 and headed north back toward St Augustine. Road is four lane but has a bike lane on most sections and made good time as I raced the incoming wetness. Noticed a bike trail crossing the highway and heading off inland. Had no idea where it was heading so decided to explore. Knew it must eventually head to the city as the corridor has the river to the west and the ocean to the east. Went a couple of miles on it and it deadended at a railhead for a cement factory. Cut through the brush and headed for the access road to the factory instead of backtracking figuring I be alright as long as the access road wasn't only connected to the interstate. Ended up backtracking anyway as the road returned me near where I had entered the trail. Hit a little traffic back in the city and tried a couple shortcuts to avoid backup caused by construction. Ran out of road and cut through a campus quad. Didn't see any signs prohibiting bicycles and made it through unmolested. Short ride today but got in before the rain.
