Today is Tuesday, but it hasn't been a typical Tuesday. I rode my bike to and from work today - that's not that uncommon on Tuesday. It reached almost 70 degrees today - that is a little unusual for a Tuesday in February for the St Louis area. In leaving work today, I rode to the bowling alley instead of riding home - riding to the bowling alley is normally done on a Friday, not on a Tuesday. During my route I had to remind myself I was going to the bowling alley and not to church - like I normally do on Wednesday evenings. Going to either of these destinations is a completely different route then the one going directly home.
I went to the bowling alley tonight, so Jacque (my wife) and I could prebowl since we are planning on being out of town at our normaly bowling time this Friday. This weekend is our annual "ski trip" weekend. Several friends from church go up to Dubuque, IA for the long weekend (President's Day) to enjoy some mid-west skiing. We normally drive up Friday, ski all day Saturday & Sunday, and then return home on Monday. This is normmaly such a big deal, that some of us in the group start counting down the days to the next ski trip weekend almost as soon as the last one is over.
Well, like I said Jacque & I went to the bowling alley and did our prebowling before heading home. Jacque's monther has been ill and in the hosopital the last couple days, and Jacque was going to head back out from the house to go to the hospital and spend the night in her mom's room - like Jacque's sister did last night. That's when our nephew called, from the hospital, suggesting we get the fast - by time we got there, Jacque's mom had passed away.
We spent sometime there calling other loved ones & friends, and mourning our hurt over the lost of a loved one, but also rejoicing in the fact that we know that Glenda is no longer hurting and having to fight the cancer she's been battling the last few years. We know she now has a perfect body.
If I remember the unusual weather today or the abnormal schedule of events today, it will only be because I will remember that this is the day that Glenda Jaeger, my wife's mother, my mother-in-law, one of my daughter's granddmothers - she was all of these things and will be missed in these rolls - passed on from this life into her eternity with God; and her not being here just makes today seem a little strange.
