 Valentine Recumbent Stereotype Grrrrrrrrrrrr
In the latest issue of www.roadbikerider.com/ Scott Martin had some Valentine's poems. And the recumbent one irked me because when it comes to recumbents, the stereotype is that they are only for old guys who ride them because something hurt.

Better yet, here are the poems Scott wrote. My email to him follows:

What Scott Martin penned:

Valentine's Day is coming fast, so I better get cracking on a love poem. Make that 8 love poems, one for each of my one-and-only's.

To my race bike:
Roses are red
Violets are white
I love you
'Cause you're so light

To my mountain bike:

Roses are red
Violets are purdy
I love you
'Specially when it's dirty

To my commuter bike:

Roses are red
Violets are black
I love you
And your pannier rack

To my folding travel bike:

Roses are red
Violets are da bomb
I love you
When I fly to see Mom

To my tandem:

Roses are red
Violets are great
I love you
When it's a ride and a date

To my cyclocross bike:

Roses are red
Violets are scarier
I love you
When I vault any barrier

To my recumbent:

Roses are red
Violets are gray
I love you
When my back goes astray

To my fixie:

Roses are red
Violets're the most
I love you
Till I try to coast

MY EMAIL TO SCOTT:

Yo Scott,

As a recumbent rider I be tired of the "...they're only for old guys who hurt.." stereotype, so I've taken some liberty with your poem.

To my recumbent:

Roses are red
Violets are gray
I love you
Cuz I can ride all day

To my recumbent:

Roses are red
Violets are gray
I love you
Coasting from roadies away

To my recumbent:

Roses are red
Violets are gray
I love you
As comfy I lay

To my recumbent:

Roses are red
Violets are gray
I love you
As you keep headwinds at bay

To my recumbent:

Roses are red
Violets are gray
I love you
Hearing kids "Phat Bike" they say

To my recumbent:

Roses are red
Violets are gray
I love you
Unique is surely okay

Oh by the way, did I tell you how I came to ride a recumbent? I couldn't pedal a diamond frame uphill because of back pain and............

Ride Long and Prosper
