Planned on going to a park today and not riding but decided to get out early and take a ride as have rode at least forty days without being off the bike and hated to break the streak. Probably though it would have been better to take the day off since the ride I took was very stressful, and at times felt I was in a play through of frogger. Started in a park on Lake Parker. Motel receptionist told me she often sees cyclists going around the lake. Park itself was very elaborate with many trails and it took me a bit to find one going around the lake instead of short loops. Eventually found the one I wanted but it only went a couple miles before turning into a side walk through a commercial section before ending abruptly. Had to backtrack and get across a four lane heavily trafficked divided highway to another thin rough sidewalk on the other side. Then had to recross the highway and head up the east side of the lake on a two lane with no sidewalk, shoulder or bike lane. That was going well until a fog rolled in and soon was dripping from condensation and hoping not to encounter any texting drivers. North side was back on a major highway merging with cars coming off the interstate. Back on the east side to finish things off the road and sidewalks were torn up for construction. Opted to walk a couple sections rather than negotiate the construction detours with the heavy traffic. Was glad the ride was over. Lakeland is not a cycling friendly city though they do have a pretty nice lakeside park. Probably didn't help the the Detroit team is in town for spring training.
