 Trail Grooming.

I tried to ride the Stone Bridge Trail yesterday, but the 6" of snow we got earlier in the week didn't get packed hard enough to ride on. I went a quarter mile or so, and gave up. I was sinking in too much. We need the snowmobiles to pack it down more, or we need a warm thaw and freeze to ice it up a bit.

So, to get my exercize for the day, I went out to groom the cross country ski trails in the back yard.
To do this, I have a plastic sled, the kind ice fishermen use to haul their gear, and put 2 heavy concrete/cement patio blocks in it, (there's also a big block of ice in there) then I put on my snowshoes and pull it around the trails.
It packs the snow, making skiing better, and the trails will last longer. You can skate ski on the wider sections. Grooming will also help with the classic track too. Right now the snow is too deep for a good track.

This is pretty tough work. I was able to get a nice wide trail groomed up the quarry hill, the quarry loop, and the two middle trails, in 2 hours. Then I had to call it quits, because my legs were starting to hurt too bad. I saw our neighbor grooming the northern part of the trails, where the short steep hills are.

I might go out tomorrow and finish the outer loops.

Maybe I'll put on my HR monitor to just how much of a workout it really is.
