Ken posted an email yesterday about riding to TR for lunch and back to the Park before the winter storm blows in. I drove to Cleveland Park and rode a few miles to ensure getting a quarter then met them at the Park to ride. The trail was pretty empty and we chatted as we rode along. Going north we saw 5 other riders. On campus at Furman we ran into three downed trees blocking the trail. Ken took pictures and emailed the head of county maintenance about them. We rode through campus to get around them but ran into another downed tree as soon as we we back on the trail. From there we tootled on up the trail, but we started to feel some sleet as we got into TR. We stopped at Duke's Doggs for lunch where I had grilled cheese, fries, and sweet tea. We chatted for a good while. It was starting to sleet when we left Duke's Doggs. Ken wanted to ride on to Sunrift but Steve didn't. I went north with Ken and Steve headed south. We didn't see him again until we were back at Cleveland Park. Coming south we rode through light snow, light sleet, and light rain. When we were back at Furman the maintenance crew was cutting up the trees and clearing the trail. We saw one other rider going south. I would like to have stopped at the Swamp Rabbit Cafe but figured that I should get back while I still could. We beat the storm, but felt the opening salvo from it while riding back down the trail.
