Ride started in forty degree weather, but the bright sunshine brought the temperature up readily and I was able to start shedding clothes within the first twenty miles. The recent warming trend was made possible by a strong south wind and that made for a wash-nice warm day but killer headwinds. Headed to the west along farm to market roads for the first twenty five miles and took it easy and spun as the second leg of the trip was into the wind. Wind had seemed bad when it was a crosswind, but it was absolutely brutal as a headwind. Tried to remain optimistic and keep a high cadence but after the first eight or so, the cadence dropped and the heart rate rose until I could barely maintain ten miles and hour. Ride devolved into just trying to get to the next sign or fence post and as soon as that was achieved focus on the next post. Eventually the road turned and I got a little relief but still struggled against a crooswind. Soon after making the turn I had my only excitement of the day as I was ambushed by fast dog that slipped under a fence and started to pursue me. I had a really strong acceleration and felt good until I noticed that the road turned to the right ahead and would put me back into the thirty mile an hour wind. The dog knew the terrain better than I and cut diagonnally across the inside of the corner and I thought he would nail me for sure despite my small lead. Lucked out as he didn't want to be in the wind either and abandonded the chase as soon as I finished the turn. Suffered for a few more miles in the wind but got the wind at my back for the last twenty miles. Felt great as I got into some long rollers and started to sprint to the tops. Aided by the wind I was climbing like a pro and it put me in good spirits as I finished the ride.
