It felt good to be back on the bike this morning riding to work. In years past, the day back on the bike after ski trip weekend I feel lethargic, as a result of my legs being exhausted from the hard work of the weekend. My legs are also normally tight after all the bending and flexing on the slopes, then cooling on the ride home (sitting in the car for 5+ hours). This year, my legs are not as exhausted – maybe from skiing only one day, not two, but also I was not feeling the exhaustion on the slopes Saturday even though we were getting many more runs than normal thanks to the light crowd. Maybe my legs (& I in general) are in a little better shape this year. I have put in more miles/rides to this point of almost any other year in my history, plus I have done some resistance training a few times in recent weeks. My calves are tight, not as bad as I’ve had in years past, and like in the past, riding the bike should help relief that by getting warm blood circulating through them.
On the ride to work this morning, my hands were getting colder than I expected. I knew the temp was just under freezing (32 F), but I wore my full-finger cycling gloves and not my ski gloves like I normally do in this below freezing range. What I didn’t realize until after I got to work & logged the ride into BikeJournal is that the wind chill was closer to 20 F – no wonder my hands were feeling so cold. The glovers were sufficient and did a fine job on the way home.
