Ride time temperatures were in the mid-fifties and saw the sun for three miles before the rain clouds began to roll in. Started off with a slow tailwind assisted spin with little intention of doing any significant work. Plan changed when the wind was found to be blowing well above the predicted speed. First climb was a highway climb into the wind with a seven or eight percent grade. Tried to keep a smooth pace on the climb and got over the top with an 'average' average of twelve. Found myself driving into the wind for another five miles of upgrade that turned out to be more difficult than the climb proper. After the ten miles of headwind, made the turn in Chambers and got to do a long, steep climb. Tried to ride aggressively on the steep sections but soon failed into a granny gear grind. Suffering ended at after sixteen miles with the climbing behind me and the headwind negated by the long downhill to Horseheads. Two thirds of the ride ended up into the wind, but the final third of the ride was actually quite pleasant as was able to hold speeds in the mid to upper twenties without excessive effort. Started to feel some raindrops over the last few miles as the wind pushed some showers ahead of me. Ended up fairly tired but with the a couple weeks of rain and more snow in the forecast, I didn't see any reason to hold back.
