It's been nearly three weeks since my last commute - so I've got some ground to make up to reach my goal of 100 commutes this year. But today is also the coldest day that I've ridden - air temp of 10 w/wind chill below 0. My previous coldest was 16 degrees and I've done a couple days at 18.
Whenever the temp is below 32, people (co-workers) find it a bit crazy that I'm out in the cold like that - and those are usually the smokers standing outside puffing on their cigarettes. One thing I tell them, and tell myself, is I remember a day up in Dubuque, IA that the high for the day was 8, yes eight for the high, and I spent most if it out on the slopes there are Sundown Mountain. Basically, with a couple layers of clothing you can stay fairly warm as long as you keep moving/excerising so that your body prouces more heat.
It should be a little better this evening going home - today's high temp may climb into the low 20's.
