When I drove downtown on Thursday I noticed that most of the sand has been cleared from East North so I decided that it's time to ride from home again instead of driving downtown to take off. It turned cold and rained hard all day yesterday and continued through this morning. It stopped raining in the late morning then later in the afternoon it cleared off and the wind blew in. It did warm up to the middle 40s. About the time that I normally get off work I decided that it was dry enough to take a run at it, so I headed downtown on East North and on out to the Swamp Rabbit. I rode it to the north end and back to rack up a little under 29 miles. The wind was really stiff today. The flags were standing straight out at the downtown post office and the railroad depot. There were a couple of places that I thought the wind was going to lift me off my seat. On out the trail I saw a couple of animals with very bushy tails on the trail. I thought that they were too big and the tail too bushy to be large squirrels. Once I was up there a fox jumped out of the bushes and ran up the trail in front of me. It was a little surprising to see them out frolicking in the daylight. I usually see foxes around here at dusk and after dark. Along Washington Street where it crosses the trail I saw a man walking barefoot down the street wearing black tights. I also saw a jogger on the Furman campus wearing shorts with no shirt. It was too cold for that! Other than the big wind it was a great ride.
