Monday Music - The Lingering Parade.

After a slow start in the studio, caused by several hard drive crashes on the Tascam 2488, the thing settled down and I was able to record all the vocals for the Lingering Parade.
I also added some cold winds, and a very low sub bass in the ending, courtesy of my vintage Sequential Curcuits Pro-One synthesizer. You'll need big speakers or a sub woofer to get the full effect at the end. It's pretty kool.
Oh yeah, I also fixed an acoustic guitar part that was a little off the beaten path, and dumped the harmonica. The more I listen to the song, the more I like it with just acoustic guitar and vocals in the first half of the song.

Here's the mp3 to download... (Song 13) public.me.com/xrsmith

And here are the lyrics again, so you can sing along...

The Lingering Parade.

No magic rather measured madness in its way
Steeped in lore half the fuel and half the hay
So its you so special but perfectly buckled
Yet when you speak everyone seems to follow

They said hey can’t you feel the luminous cold
& that the clouds could heed them what they wanted
In times gone by they burned a mass of candles
And set upon a succession of lingering parades

Come Frosty and Crystal come Sunny and Halo

Top hats at hand seer of seers, sage of sage
Perchance a pause to reflect upon prediction
Possessing the power to give or dash all hope
It can make you strong or a wish that fades away

They said hey can’t you feel the luminous cold
& that the clouds could heed them what they wanted
In times gone by they burned a mass of candles
And set upon a succession of lingering parades

Come Frosty and Crystal come Sunny and Halo

Tornado Typhoon and a butterfly moon mere shadows to the Sun…
Windy runs fast Winter lingers it lasts as sure as Celsius was born…
Clear blustery peak progression six weeks left for Frosty, Crystal, Sunny and Halo…

Normally I will listen to a song quite a few times after the first mix, and make notes of any changes that might be needed, bad harmonies, timing errors... This 1st mix isn't too bad, I may have buried my big Phil Collins drum fill in the mix, but that might be a good thing!... I'll also listen to it on several different stereos and see how the mix sounds on each.

So far, I'm happy with the sound quality of all the instruments, But I may need to try a different microphone for the vocals, they're a little crispy and cold, but they work for this song.
I like my vocals a bit warmer and mellow sounding. But these are my first recordings with the Tascam 2488, and I need to try a few things to get the sound I want.

Enjoy the music...
