I drove to Cleveland Park knowing that I needed to be home early from riding. I rode about 3 miles before the ride to ensure bringing in a quarter today. Once we gathered up there were ten of us - Ken, Steve, Kimberly, Melanie, Michael, Bill, Bob, Howie, Vicky, and me. The ride was very slow with some new riders and the trail was very crowded. It was 65 degrees so people were out in droves, so that slowed things down as well. We had been on the trail for an hour and were still only half way to TR. I told Ken that I couldn't wait any longer and took off north. Pretty soon I noticed that Bill was chasing me down. I turned off the trail on Old Buncombe Road and he caught me while climbing a hill. Bill had a 5:30 meeting and his wife was waiting at the Forest at 3 when we were still onlly half way there. So Bill and I hustled on up the trail. I left him at the Forest and headed back south. I had decided to try riding Old Buncombe back into town to avoid the overcrowded trail, but once I was out in the open I could see that I would be riding in the open into a hard wind. Sso I decided to brave the crowds on the trail rather than fight the wind all the way back. The trail wasn't quite as crowded on the return trip and I hustled into the wind the best that I could.
