 Three Hills
Sun finally showed up and provided a good day for riding the road bike. Went out to work on improving the climbing and started out right away climbing New Odessa Hill. Actually had a pretty decent climb and kept the pressure on and a high cadence. Even finished with strong legs as opposed to a few days ago when I struggled over the top. Cut over a minute from last time but still need to bring it down another minute and a half to be a good climb like in the days of old. Second hill came up at about the ten mile mark just after Alpine and am not sure it rates a hill as much as a long grade as it doesn't get very steep. Still climbed fairly well toward Sullivinville and encountered a good deal of traffic. Shoulder is still in bad shape and really have to ride in the road until Sullivinville where the new pavement starts. Made the turn in Hanover Square and kept good speed on the downgrade to Montour. Kept riding to Watkins and picked up my third hill up Old Corning. Did fairly well on the steep bottom half but started to run out of leg before the top on the long grade section. Kept going well and rode strong to about the forty mile mark where I lost my focus dodging potholes on Johnson Hollow. The Hollow is supposed to get some new pavement this summer and it really needs it. Started riding in the shade and it wasn't as nice as riding in the sunshine and hands started to stiffen up. Did see another rider struggling up Johnson Hollow Hill as I coasted down. He took time out from his effort to give a friendly wave. Remainder of the ride was another run down 14N. Sun made a big difference today and could actually feel the heat from it on a couple of occasions but it still was winter like in the shaded sections.
