Spring has definitely sprung in Arkansas it was an ideal riding day today. Went old school today and just looked at a map and estimated a ride of around seventy or eighty miles. Didn't look at any elevation profiles or terrain maps and just headed west into the Ozarks and explored some new territory. Ride was pretty much due west on a highway for thirty five miles then come back on some backroads. Turned out to be a really nice ride with most of the ride being rolling hills. Majority of the ride was in forest and though the first part of the ride was on a major road it was not heavily trafficed. Seemed to climb steadily but it was the type of road that you look at and are not sure whether it is ascending or decending. Started to see some low mountains after twenty miles but they were only visible in sections of the forest that had been logged. Biggest climb of the day was to the crest at Alpine but it probably wasn't much more than a two hundred foot climb. Rolled into my goal of Amity and was chased down the street by some dogs. They weren't chasing me agressively and appeared want to accompany me on the ride. Guess not much happens to keep the dogs entertained in Amity but they were appropriately friendly. Turned around and started heading back on 84 which ran through more forest. It had a good road surface, low traffic, rolling hills and the welcome smells of spring. Had underestimated the milage though and ended up a little further north than I really wanted to be and had to push seventeen miles of headwind to get back to the start. Had a great eighty mile ride and a bonus ten miles of maybe not so great riding to give me ninty miles for the day.
