Unusually nice weather remained today with one small difference, and that was the direction of the wind. I started a little later in the day for my ride exchanging a few degrees of warmth for a couple miles an hour of headwinds. I tried not to resent the headwinds as I headed out for at least twenty miles of in my face, with a fourteen mile an hour wind with gusts in the low twenties. The south wind was graciously returning what yesterday's north wind had given it but now warmer by fifteen degrees. The ride had a few rolling hills and was roughly fifty miles of one percent grade followed by ten miles of fast downhill. First twenty to Elmira was just keep my head down and crank out the miles which produced an average of a little over thirteen miles an hour. Thought I might luck out and catch a tailwind heading west to Corning or at least a crosswind, but the new valley system had its own windstream that was unfortunately in my face again. I did get a couple of breaks when the road looped around a bit but mainly it was another fifteen miles of low speed. Ride improved as I neared Corning and started to get the wind behind me. It continued to push me up the third and final valley road. Pretty lackluster day as only saw one other cyclist in Horseheads, Legs felt better than I thought they would after yesterday's jaunt. Hopefully burned off some fat and got a little tan on my legs. Was glad I waited for it to warm up as I got to ride with a few less layers than normal. Looks like another beautiful but windy day tomorrow and hope to get some climbing in if the legs will have it.
