It was a little warmer than yesterday but with more sun and wind. Another ride with a moderate amount of long grade climbing was what I opted for today, as I am really in no shape for any serious climbing. First leg of the triangle took me up SR14 to Horseheads and spun the one percent average grade at a decent cadence and felt good with full sun and a crosswind. The road gods smiled on me as I rode through a minefield of coinage on the shoulder of the road in Pine Valley. Noticed some quarters in the till as I rode through it and decided I was not too proud to turn around and pick it up. Ended up with a couple of bucks for the effort. Not sure what the thrill of throwing coins out of a moving car is but it is one trend I hope continues. Second leg was another long grade out to Erin with a couple of highway kickers near the top of Swartout Hill. This section was not nearly as fun nor as profitable as the first leg as I really struggled to get to the top. Took my time on the twisting decent as it was still in the shade and ice and snow still dominated the landscape. I was a little concerned with ice on the road but none was evident. Last leg turned out to be painful as I bonked at mile thirty just as I started through the numerous rollers between Van Etten and Alpine. Stopped at the bridge at the Schuyler County border and ate a couple of crunchy bars in hopes of recovering. Really didn't recover and ended up very slowly making my way home. Saw IronDoug heading out of Alpine for a ride up the steeper side Swartout Hill. Did make it to Odessa and started perking up a bit and enjoyed the long coast down new Odessa Hill.
