 Osceola National Forest
Ride today was east of Lake City in mostly in the Osceola National Forest. Rain clouds were headed back in but finished the ride in the morning with a couple hours to spare before the skies opened up. Staged at the parking lot of a Civil War battlefield on Route 90 and had a good fifteen miles of highway traffic before reaching Lake City. Wasn't much of a problem though as again there was a wide shoulder and only had to venture into traffic lanes while passing people who were pulled over to answer their phones. Once turning to the northeast in Lake City onto the Gum Swamp Road there was no longer any shoulder, but on the plus side traffic was almost none existent through the swampy forest land. Did see a few fisherman on an occasional bridge but personally probably wouldn't want to eat anything I could catch in the blackish shallow water. I imagine they were fishing for some sort of bottom feeder like a catfish as the water looked to have a good deal of rotting vegetation in it, and really didn't smell very good. Probably should have stopped and asked what they were after. Had a good twenty five mile section of pine forest before reaching Taylor. Used to easily cruise this course at eighteen miles an hour thirty years ago but only cruised at sixteen this decade. Headed back south from Taylor and found many more homesteads have been built since the wayback, but traffic was still light and there was still a good deal of serenity left along the road. Finished off with another section of RT 90 and traffic before ending the ride. Another day of fairly easy spinning but still didn't develop much speed . I was again encouraged not to feel tired at the end of the ride.
