Another bright sunshining day which is a welcome change from yesterday with its wind chills in the teens. Before leaving the house, I planned on heading north starting with a steep climb. Once I got out on the road though I was blasted with a north wind. Decided not to ride into it though and headed south up the valley toward Horseheads. After the first couple of miles, my computer nanny gave me my performance indicator number for the day, which I understand is computed using my heart's reaction to the load. It was the lowest I've ever gotten with a poor -18. Figured I made the right choice not stated out on a wall. Wind was gusting all over on the way up to Millport with a mile or two of tailwind and then shifting into a headwind. Got to Millport and headed up Birch Hill Road with intention of hiding from the wind in the hills. Seemed to be climbing okay but really didn't do too much work on the flatter sections as the wind was pushing me all over the road. Followed the Middle Road to Horseheads and returned via Ridge Road. Climbed well on the three short climbs back to Seymoreville but didn't put much effort into the connecting sections. Remaining downhill into the headwind was less than spectacular, but I really appreciated the fact that I didn't have cold fingers and toes. It was a very enjoyable ride despite the poor effort. Hopefully I'll be able to have a better output on tomorrows climbing day. It appears we are going to get three great days in a row before the rains return on Thursday night.
