Day two of our three day stretch of outstanding riding weather. Felt a little better today and headed out to do some hills with Steve. Computer nanny gave me a -8-performance estimate today that at least elevated me from yesterday's poor evaluation to a fair. Wind was whipping out of the west today but only turned out to be a blessing as we climbed into it shielded by the hills. We planned on doing three good climbs today but were limited by Steve's schedule. First climb was a little over two miles long at around a six percent average. Kept a comfortable pace and chatted up the climb. Turns out the town has installed some sweet new pavement on the climb. Used to be dirt back in the day but now there are few dirt roads left in the county. Averaged under ten miles per hour on the climb that was nowhere near a good time for me but still felt good climbing. Hit a little headwind on the way up the second climb out of Moreland. Again spun the climb that is a couple miles long and is actually a fairly pleasant step climb. Did some forty plus stuff on the downhill to the bottom of the last climb up Bronson that has a good section at eleven percent. Only got part way up it before Steve ran out of time and we had to return to Montour. Abandoned the climb and motored back to the start in the big chainring. We caught a strong tailwind on the downgrade on SR 414 back to CR 16. We finished the ride with another mile long decent down Stueben Street where we definitely did not exceed the thirty mile an hour speed limit at the bottom. It was a tremendous thrill to be doing a high-speed descent in seventy-degree weather after a long but very mild winter. Turned out to be its a good to be alive ride. Since it was still in the seventies after I saw Steve on his way, I got out my 1987 Nuova Strada steel road bike that I had rebuilt this winter. Felt really odd getting on the old bike that I had ridden over one hundred thousand miles on decades ago. I really haven't fit myself to the bike yet and made a list of adjustments to make as I rode. It felt really odd on the old machine after just riding a more modern carbon dream machine. Thought I might have trouble with the down tube click shifters but my muscle seemed to remember the routine. Only rode it seven miles on the flats but it kept feeling more natural the further I rode it.
