March arrived but not sure whether it came in as a lion or a lamb as the temperature was rather lamb like with a warm sun pushing it up to sixty. The wind on the other hand was very lion like as it was blowing at a steady seventeen miles an hour. I have been suffering with a cold that has really taken my edge off and set my training back a bit and today was a difficult outing. Spun the steep climb up Havana Glen and kept a slow but steady pace into a crosswind to Alpine. Things went south from there. The combination of the direct strong headwind and climb kept my speed under ten with some struggling at times just to keep the speed near eight miles an hour. Finally got over the top and had to push hard on the seven miles of downgrade into the wind just to keep the speed in the low teens. Took me almost as long to get to Horseheads as it does to do the entire ride in less windy weather. Didn't have much leg left and felt terribly weak as I pulled into Horseheads and ended up coasting most of the way home. Good news was with the high winds I could keep the speed in the high teens with little effort. Hammered the ride a week ago but today I was the anvil and really got pounded. Really bad day on the bike, but at least it was warm.
