Two days of rain and cold weather ended in the afternoon and once the sun came out the temperature climbed to near sixty. Got out of work a little early to get a ride in. Went out without much enthusiam as just wanted to get the ride over before darkness set in. Got a few miles into the ride when I was ambushed by a medium sized, sleek, young dog. She had a good angle on me and I was going up a long grade into a headwind when the sprint started. I had no leg speed at all and no snap and the she-beast easily outpaced me, embarassingly so. She got several lengths ahead of me despite my best effort and she finally glanced back to see where I was. I figured that if she turned on me she would easily block me and I would either have to hit her or stop and let her run the show. Fortunately for me she took pity and slowed down enough for me to catch her and much to her apparent joy we started another sprint. I faired better in the second sprint as she was running on the shoulder and encountered some long grass. I had enough leg speed and momentum left from the first sprint that I was able to match her speed and then pull away as the grade slackened. Even though I won the second sprint I had to cede the day to one very fast and friendly dog. Rest of the ride was uneventful but went quickly as I caught the tailwind up the climb and a following crosswind back into town.
