Not really very spring like for the first day of spring. The sun was in the right position alright but the North wind was still stuck on winter. Rode twenty-five on the trainer this morning then headed out on the mountain bike for a short ride with some climbing. Wind was nasty but minimized the nastiness by staying in the woods. After a cold ride through town I headed up the Dug Road. It used to be a two mile long dirt road climb but now alas it is all paved. Planned on spinning the whole climb, but gears didn't want to shift and was left with only three mid range selections. Ended up standing on all the steep sections. Really wasn't too bad as I really wasn't trying to kill myself today. After the nine hundred or so feet of climbing the rest of the ride was downhill. The only dirt road left on this ride turned out to be the New Road. It has been abandoned for a few years and is now in pretty rough shape. It wasn't dirt today as it still has a cover of ice and snow. Headed back from Millport on the bike trail which was not a good time today. The southern section was pretty muddy and between the mud and the wind the downgrade turned out to be more work than the initial climb. It would have been a decent winter ride, but as a spring ride it left much to be desired.
