Unusually nice day for a ride in East Texas for March. I guess the temperature in the seventies isn't that unusual but the lack of a constant prarie wind is. Headed out for a northeastern loop instead of the usual southeatern fare. Most trees now have filled out with leaves and the roadsides are bordered with fields of blooming blue, purple and orange wildflowers. Air was also heavy with pollen but fortunately it didn't really affect me as much as it has some of the locals. Had a strong fifty miles and was entertained by birdsong and sighted a couple of different types of buzzards and hawks and even ran through a huge flock of guinea hens. Stopped for awile and listened to the birds and even welcomed the drone of the insects that I haven't heard in several months. Rode across a long bridge across a lake south of Quinlan then turned and headed for the barn. Next twenty miles wasn't as pleasant as the first section as the legs began to tire and spent alot of time shooing off various insects that were pelting me. Roads to the NE appear to be more of the shake & bake surface and the vibration took a toll on the body as everything from seat to feet started to get sore. Last ten miles turned into suffering as I encountered a section of road that had just been coated with some type of clear sealant. Stuff stuck to my tires and was very much like riding on flypaper. Soon had a coating of small stones stuck to my tires. Ran the gamut today from it doesn't get better than this to this kind of sucks. Still overall good eighty mile ride though I probably am going to have a sunburn on the arms.
