After work I drove up to Furman and took the bike north on the SRT but as soon as I turned off campus I realized that I wasn't wearing my helmet. So I tuned back, picked up my helmet, and started anew. I crossed Poinsett Highway, turned onto Altamont, and started the trek up the Travelers Rest side of the mountain. It only took 21 1/2 minutes to reach the top off the road, then took summit Road onto the towers and stuff that are on top of the summit. I called my riding friend Lou who is taking a class in Oklahoma and we talked for a while. He was dressing for a ride out there. Then I found a quiet place on the mountain top to pray for a dear friend and her family, but while I was praying for them another cyclist stopped to talk to me. We talked for while and he introduced himself as Sonny, then I finished my prayers for my friend and also that I would make it down the mountain safely! The ride down the mountain wasn't too bad, although at one point I had a woman that appeared to have had a few too many run out into the road to try to high-five me as I went by. Once down the Greenville side of the mountain I followed a convoluted maze of back roads to get back to the SRT and the Furman campus. I got lost in the maze once but found my way out. Along the way I passed a teenager that had nearly overturned a lawn tractor in the culvert. I stopped and helped him push it out, then road back to campus. I called Cis and she brought some food out and we watched the Furman baseball team beat UNC-Greensboro.
