Long hours and cold weather have pretty much kept me off the bike for the past month. Got a few short rides in, but for the most part the rides were very low effort events. Either fatigue or just plain laziness has been plaguing my cycling goals. Had a short night last night so planned a big ride today. Changed the plan when ride time came and it was forty degrees with 22 mph winds and occasional stronger gusts. Really didn't want to get involved in a sufferfest in my first of hopefully a long string of consecutive rides, so opted for a shorter ride on the bike path which would provide me with a little shelter from the cold north wind. Hit my first hurdle when I tried to put on my shoes and found that my feet were swollen and had a hard time getting them on. Eventually got them on as well as the rest of my cold weather gear and hit the road. really wasn't too bad out despite the wind. Hit the trail and found that it has been upgraded with new pavement on a majority of the path. Bad news is that they have covered over most of the planets of the to scale solar system that were painted on the trail. Sun was warm, birds were vocal and many of the trees have new leaves coming out, but it was still a cold winter ride. Only had to navigate through a group of three walkers today as the weather seems to kept most people indoors. Got in a little over twenty easy miles and my greatest effort today was getting the shoes on. Really need to get back on my diet and back on the bike as despite the cold weather, racing season is less than a month away. Hopefully I'll be able to get in a couple of southern centuries before heading back north to the icebox.
