Celebrated the end of night shift with eleven hours of sleep. The plan was to get up much earlier and ride as the wind was scheduled to be in the unpleasant range later in the day. I did get up briefly and open the door and was greeted with a cold gray sky and damp air. Bailed on the early ride and went back to bed. I headed out after lunch with sunny skies and a temperature nearing sixty. I also got a twenty-two miles an hour wind. Rode the first twenty five miles straight into the wind at a very low speed. I estimated my time to the turn out of the wind to be somewhere between forever and eternity. I did find some solace in viewing the thick green grass and budding leaves on most of the trees. For a good part of the windswept section my left side was a toasty as it was being warmed by the southern sun, while the right side was chilled by an occasionally cold north wind. I eventually made the turn and was rewarded for the effort with an average a little over thirteen miles an hour. Perked up a little through the rollers east of Direct as I was aided by a strong following crosswind. I only had to do one dog sprint today through Ambush Alley against a German Shepherd and a cow dog. I thought the cow dog would put up a good fight but he was outshined by the long winded shepherd. Still it wasn't much of a contest as I had a good tailwind and was already up to speed when ambushed. I had looked forward to a strong tailwind back down 271 but the wind had began to subside as the sun dropped. Legs were fairly worn out at the end of the ride.
