It appears that it will be raining for the next week and so decided to attempt to get a short ride in the two hour window between the soaking rain and a wave of thunderstorms moving through the area. The forecast also hinted that the sun might make a brief appearance in the second hour of the window. Good news was it would be in the mid fifties. Bad news was the wind would be in the sixteen mile an hour range. Headed up Fitzpatrick Hill on my go to short windy south wind route. Did fairly well on the bottom section, fairly poorly on the mid bridge section and fairly well over the top. Ended up will a rather slow nine four on the climb. Rollers were brutal today as lost speed as soon as my profile crested the hill and caught the brutal wind. Ended up out of the saddle struggling to maintain forward progress over the tops. Once I got on the Middle Road things went a little better and had a couple of good sections. Was hoping to get the average up to fifteen by Horseheads and hammer the tailwind home but came up short as usual. Sky did brighten as I caught the tailwind and though I cast no shadow, the clouds were thin enough that I cold gauge the suns position through the cover. At least it is still up there. Tailwind home was a joy as was easily able to keep the speed in the mid to upper twenties and rolled into town with a seventeen one average. Not a bad day on the bike despite the wind and the shortness of the ride. Really need to get some sun.
