A window opened up between some of the very light showers that are passing through the area, and I got in one more windy March ride. Wind was blowing hard out of the south at a steady sixteen with some higher gusts that conjured up an occasional dust devil. Headed up Fitzpatrick hill into the wind with hopes that it would be somewhat sheltered below the ridge line. Put a good effort into the six miles or so of climb and did fairly well on the downward rollers into the wind to Horseheads. Plan worked out fairly well as was able to sail along without bogging down like I did in the wind on Thursday. Second part of the ride was supposed to be a tailwind assisted climb up the Chambers Road, but when I got there found some bridge construction with the road scheduled to be closed for the next four months. Followed the detour on the Murphey Hill road which seemed to be a longer, shallower climb than Chambers though it has a pretty good kicker at the end. Did a very fast downhill to Chambers proper and caught brutish crosswind to Beaver dams then finished off the ride with a good tailwind. Cadence started to drop after thirty miles, and so I gave up my plan of some additional climbs and headed for the barn with bright sunshine and mid sixties temperatures. Timed it right as another slight shower passed through minutes after I got home. Pretty nice ride despite the wind.
