And it's not just on a recumbent.
WEB CYCLING: There are times when you can’t hop on your bike (in my case, sit on my bike). When those times happen and you don’t feel like dipping into the "Honey Do" jar, pull up a chair (this will get you in a recumbent mood also), crank up the PC and cycle the web. There are many interesting places to visit. Here are a few:
Sheldon Brown www.sheldonbrown.com/bicycle-links.html is world reknown and when he passed away we lost one of the best. When you enter this site you’ll see a border of headings across the top. Click on any one and a pot porri of information is at your mouse paws. This site can be used to visit a plethora (Crazy Mike that’s not a sexual position) of other bicycling sites. For a delightful wet afternoon of reading, scroll down to the bottom of the page and read some of Sheldon’s humorous articles. Click into ESSAYS and then scroll all the way down and click into Bicycle Humor. Here is where you can buy your own CARRABABY ( www.sheldonbrown.com/carrababy.html ) . Sheldon has a list of other "home grown" (hmmm.. I don’t want to know what he’s growing in that greenhouse hidden by the stack of bicycle parts) products that you can check out. Again, once in this site you can find just about any bicycle topic, click on the link, and enjoy.
Want to get away vicariously to someplace else? Then go to: www.nbtda.com/default.asp This is the National Bicycle Tour Directors Association website. In the corner is a small "find-a-ride". Click on this and your transported to a map of the northern hemisphere. Click on any section such as "west" and that section is highlighted. Scroll down to the WHEN? DETAILS?. Fill in the information and find a list of tours that you can cycle from your easy chair and drool over. I wondered where those sticky keys came from. You can start planning that bicycle tour for 2003 right now. Most of these are annual tours. Ooops…it’s spring…maybe these are perennial tours? Adventure Cycling Association: www.adventurecycling.org/ If you want to contribute to a good cycling cause, get a great cycling magazine, and receive on-line information, sign up here today. This is a first class organization and at this site there are helpful links if you’re interested in some serious long distance touring or just want to get an idea of where those tours go, how they’re planned, what’s involved, etc. Whether you are a member or not, go to the Adventure Cyclist Magazine page and there is a link to the archives where you can download to Adobe past articles and spend a rainy morning or afternoon lost in thoughts of cycling great adventures.
Want to see how one cyclist has probably spent his indoor activity? Put www.mikebentley.com/bike/index.html into your web browser and visit Mike Bentley’s compendium of bicycle links. (Psssst. Go to his home page and you’ll see that his man has FAR too much time on his hands!!) If you’re visiting another state, this is one place to find a cycling club in that state. For example, if you click on New York, gee what’s the first club that pops up? And of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that you should check out: mikebentley.com/bike/bents/ Thanks Mike!!
LEAGUE OF AMERICAN BICYCLISTS: A national organization and a web site where you can obtain current information about cycling. This is also a good site for when you are visiting another site. Go to BIKE LINKS click on Recreational Bicycle Clubs and then click on the state that you will be visiting. There are also other features such as a list of tours that scrolls on the screen, helpful tips, on-line surveys etc.
JIM LANGLEY One of my favorists sites. Just go visit, click on an icon (especially the SPIN (stories) and enjoy. www.jimlangley.net/
So remember, a rainy, cold, wet, foggy or snowy day is no excuse not to bike. You can do it from the comfort of your chair. Speaking of the comfort of your chair, have I told you about recumbents? Lately?
