Body still felt a little sore after yesterday's mountain biking, but a surprisingly warm sun loosened me up as I slowly spun up the first climb out of Watkins on today's moderate climbing day. I still didn't feel very strong on the climb but had a fairly easy ascent with the warm tailwind. Kept the cadence up and crossed the false flat to Rock Stream with little effort. Little effort was, of course, the theme of the day as even though the climbs are mild they are almost continuous for the first twenty miles of the ride. The plan was to just finish and not concentrate on the average speed today. The climb out of Rock Stream was into the wind but it seemed to not affect my climbing aversely. I greeted the new batch of veal calves on the climb who were decked out in little cow warming jackets. Started to feel fairly good on the climb out of Reading Center and even a little frisky. Pushed the pace over Sugar Hill and got to the high elevation of the day in good spirit and shape. Kept good pressure on the pedals for the next twenty five miles of rolling downgrade and finished off with a high cadence spin with a tailwind down SR 14. Felt good at the finish and was encouraged that while the speed was nothing of note, at least I had suffered no week spots and sufficient energy to keep a good pressure on the pedals for over three hours. It never really got warm today but the sun had enough heat that the fifty degree temperature seemed very comfortable.
