 Second Climbs
Finished up the winter training with the weights and computrainer and really started spring riding today. Weight is going in the right direction and have gotten below the too fat to climb level and am comfortably in the climb like a cement truck zone, but the weight factor seemed to be making a noticeable difference in my performance. Repeated the cold north wind course from two weeks ago. It was a little windier but five degrees warmer that also made a big difference on the descents. Started off up Dug Road and didn't perform well on the first steep section and was a little worried, but once the grade got below ten percent I got a sweet spin going and with a slight tailwind made excellent time on the mid section. Slowed a little on the last section of the two mile climb and crested with a 9.6 avg. A half mile below the 10.1 standard but also a half mile better than last week. Recover well and hit the second rolling climb in the big chainring and was able to carry some speed over the top.Caught most of the headwind of the day on the next downgrade to the base of Bronson hill but made some effort and kept up the momentum of the ride. Bronson Hill was similar to the first climb of the day where I didn't handle the steep section very well but was able to stand and spin to get through it. Did better on the upper section though it wasn't as windy as last time. The down hill section was very fast as it was warm enough to push the pace without catching a chill. Also the roads were cleaner and wasn't worried about any surprises as the surface was in good shape last time. Thought I might be able to get the average up to the fifteen standard as I was able to push a big gear with the tailwind but was foiled by a traffic light in Watkins. Still ended up with a fourteen eight and was a little disappointed but very satisfied with a strong early season ride.
