Another day in the wind. First day with short sleeves and it was sunny enough to give me a good start on my cycling tan lines. First longish ride of the year started out into the wind and uphill. Had another poor climb up new Odessa Hill which was followed by eighteen miles into a twelve mile an hour steady headwind. Pushed hard into the wind with lackluster results. Had a brief respite from the wind in Van Etten on the approach to the Wyncoop Creek climb. Climb wasn't as poor as the first of the day but needs a lot of improvement. The climb was followed by another twelve miles of nasty headwind. Gave up the push at twenty five miles and just tried to keep moving forward. Stopped at the Dandy Mart in Chemung for the traditional Coke and Zingers and briefly chatted with one of two other cyclists that were out today. Turned out of the headwind at the thirty five mile mark and made good time for five miles before cracking again on the ensuing rollers. Burned through my remaining water and started to cramp in Elmira. Pitiful that I'm not used to mid seventies weather. Spun the last fifteen miles home that wasn't too difficult with a downgrade and a fifteen mile an hour tailwind. Ended up making a strong effort with poor results as I rolled in with an under sixteen average. Got off the bike exhausted, sat on the couch and promptly fell asleep
