Drove up into Arkansas for a little taste of the mountains. Rode my normal route out of Arladelphia up RT 7 then cut across on the rolling back roads to Hot Springs. Took it easy through the rollers though I really didn't feel too bad after yesterday's fairly taxing ride. Weather was fantastic with temperature a little below eighty and a slight wind that was barely noticeable compared with Texas's nearly daily twenty mile and hour wind fests. The only goal I had for the day was a decent climb up the fifteen percent steep climb to the tower on RT 128. Tried to envisioned myself attacking the thing out of the saddle, but when push came to shove I ended up staying in the saddle. I call a draw though as I didn't crack and was able to moving by staying seated. The climb didn't seem terribly hard this year but then again I usually pushed through the rollers and climbed the ten percent approach at a higher speed. The down hill was again a thrill though it always go by much too fast. Felt pretty good on the highway climb across the mountain up RT 7 and though didn't develop much speed the rollers went well. Crossed the dam and decided to add some miles since the weather forecast indicated that this might be the last day I would see the sun for the next week to ten days. Headed up into the state park above the dam. Continued some steep rollers up toward Iron Mountain. Not sure where the top of the mountain was but rode along Skyline Drive. The State Park road was in really good shape with high quality pavement and very low traffic. I did encounter a few short fifteen plus percent grades along the way and did some climbing out of the saddle. The roads didn't seem to match very well with the map I had on my phone but eventually made a left, descended a steep hill and found myself back on SR 8. Ran out of water with ten miles to go, and legs ran out soon after. Cut across the Old Military road and did another seven miles of taxing rollers. Ended up with sore legs but had a good day in the hills.
