The Sage of weather forecasting predicted light winds and a temperature approaching the mythical seventy degrees. Planned on a pleasant though long ride around Seneca Lake for the first time this year. Opted for shorts even though it was only forty-four when I headed out as the predicted sunshine would rapidly warm it up, and I would be quite comfortable by the time I crested the first hill. I was greeted by a light rain instead of sunshine as I headed out but was sure it wouldn't last long. The rain picked up and the temperature steadily dropped as I climbed that first hill. Once over the top I was sure the temperature would stabilize and the rain would soon be over. The temperature continued to drop and the rain fell harder for the next six miles until it hits its nadir at thirty-eight degrees. The rain also changed to hailstones as I rode through Glenora. Thought I might have to scrape the ice off my bare shins, but other than that it really wasn't too bad. Prayed I didn't get at flat as that would really ruin the day. Rain continued another seven miles to Himrod where it began to taper off, and I was soon riding on dry roads. Temperature climbed steadily until I was at a relatively toasty forty-seven as I reached the northern most portion of the ride in Geneva. Wind started picking up as the day warmed, but I was okay with it as I could use forty-five miles of tailwind. Saw two commuters out around Geneva which surprised me since I see so few cyclists these days of late. Just kind of plodded along on the way back. Scenery is still rather dismay with varying shades of grays and browns as the greening has yet to commence. Temperature finally climbed above fifty as I finished the climbing to Lodi. Saw my third rider of the day and it turned out to be another honest to God road rider. Sun came out in Valois and temperature hit the highpoint of the day at fifty-five before it started dropping again as I got closer to the cold lake. I ended the ride with everything but my feet dried out. Really wasn't too bad a ride overall. Didn't do any speed work or any hard climbing but legs felt pretty good after the year's first long slow ride despite the weather.
