Yesterday was a decent day for riding but had too much moving back in and ran out of daylight. Looked forward to today's climb to Catherine and on up Ridge Road via Jackson Hill. Being one of the milder climbs in the area I figured it would be a good start for getting back into almost every ride in the county involving at least one climb with greater than ten percent grades. Tried to climb hard but didn't seem to have much today getting to the first checkpoint with an 10.9 avg. Was looking for a 12 but with have been content with an 11. Usually I can increase the average with the next section of climbing but it continued to drop today getting over the top at 10.5. Surprised myself and felt great pushing the big gear on the final twenty miles of downhill and downgrade and got the overall average speed up to 17 which gives me some hope for some faster riders in the future. Sun felt great and wind didn't really bother me today and overall it was an enjoyable first ride despite the disappointing climbing.
