Had sunshine and really fine weather in the morning but waited for the temperature to get above fifty before heading out on a short hilly windy ride. It probably would have been better to ride earlier as although the temperature was higher due to the approaching rain and higher humidity, it turned out to be much colder. I put on some leg warmers before heading out and it was the right decision. My co-rider wore shorts and before the ride was over he was sure his joints were freezing up. Ride itself wasn't too bad despite the wind and cold. We headed up Skyline Drive, which for me was the first time in a couple of years due to the road being closed for bridge repair. We agreed to take it easy and we pretty much did on the climb though you still need to put in a solid effort just to crest the hill. Wind wasn't much of a factor as it was out of the West and ninety percent of the course had a North/South orientation. Had a fairly decent second climb on the shallow hill to Logan and performed well with a high spin. After a cold downhill section from Logan to SR 414 we kept a fairly high paced two man paceline back to Watkins. SR 414 isn't the best road to ride due to a poor shoulder and high traffic, but it is very scenic and mostly downgrade. Felt good on the bike today despite the cold, damp air, and we did finish before it started raining.
