It was a very warm fifty-five today and there was a brisk north wind but it seemed to lack the energy of many of the recent winds. Today was a climbing day with one steepish climb and an additional three or four highway climbs. Didn't have a great climb up Pine Street and then up Mud Lake but didn't collapse at the top and run out of oxygen as has been the case of early season climbs on the hills in the past. So that was encouraging. Tried to get my average speed back up for the checkpoint in Dundee but fell a little short, so either have to start climbing a better or buckling down in the headwinds. Climb out of Dundee to Penn Yan went fairly well as it is shallow enough that I kept a high cadence. Run down the backside is usually a high speed affair, but headwinds kept speeds down and didn't make my time check at Penn Yan either. Spun the next two climbs and finally got to the tailwind section and tried to make up the lost time. Had a really good head of steam for a good ten miles but lost focus for the final ten and kept fair speed but rode comfortably rather than aggressively. Turned out to be a fun ride on a beautiful spring day.
