It was warmer than yesterday but where the wind seemed to lack energy yesterday, today it was brutal. Plan was to do a little steep climbing in the morning and a flat ten mile time trial in the afternoon. Got a good start with the climbing part of the day with a run up Skyline then continuing up to Logan. Must have used all my climbing mojo yesterday as the first climb today was tough. Had a fair time up it but considering that I had a twenty five mile an hour tailwind pushing me up the climb I was disappointed. Tailwind continued to Logan and it was a strong one. It was picking debris up off the ground and lofting it into the air as well as pelting me with small branches being blown off trees as I rode through the wooded sections. Any chance of having a fun ride stopped when I completed the downhill on CR 2 and turned into the headwind. I actually had a hard time turning into it and thought for a moment that I might tip over while executing the turn. Gusts were coming from the south and I envisioned them in the shape of sheets of plywood as they slammed into me. Only had twelve miles of it to do and a good part of the twelve was a downgrade but thought I would need a Snickers Bar as I was going to be on the road for awhile. Struggled to keep the speeds above ten for the first couple of miles but finally got to the downgrades and ride went a little better. I found myself drafting parked cars as I came back through Watkins. Finished the ride exhausted and had no desire to ride at all and decided against doing the time trial in the afternoon.
