Been dealing with many excuses not to ride starting with the mid-teen winds yesterday that were occasionally gusting into the twenties. Today's excuse was a lumberjack adventure. Decided I would work until three and then take a three hour tour but got involved and didn't free myself until five. Opted for a short ride which is at least a little better than no ride at all. Weather was ideal although it was twenty five degrees colder than my last ride on Sunday. What made the ride joyful was the lack of significant wind. Headed south on SR 14 with a mild tailwind. Legs felt loose and kept the bike in the little chain ring and kept a good cadence going. Reached the turn at sixteen two which isn't great with a tailwind but started the climb with fresh legs. Climb was mediocre at best and lost a mile an hour at the crest of the steep section. Legs perked up after the climb and put in a decent effort up through the hollow. Got the average up to sixteen three at the second corner and hit the only serious headwind of the day going north on SR 414. Headwind only hampered me a mile or so and soon was speeding down the hill into Watkins where I picked up a tailwind to finish off the ride. Ended up with a seventeen five and would have probably been able to take it up another couple notches if I didn't have to navigate the construction on SR 14. Did see one other rider coming out of the construction as I went in. Pretty nice day and decent ride although it was much shorter than I should be doing at this point. Got the Tour de Scranton in a couple of weeks which is a Metric Century with lots of climbing.
