 Weather Breaks
Weather in this area for April is usually in the sixties if the wind is from the south and in the forties if the wind comes from the north. Had a couple days of north wind with rain so opted for a couple days of spinning on the trainer. Today though had a southern wind and some sun with temperatures in the seventies. Problem for me though was a thirteen mile an hour wind with gusts into the twenties. I wanted to get out and ride but couldn't decide on a course so finally headed out and up Old Odessa Hill and would decide on a course if I got to the top in decent shape. Ended up quickly going into the granny gear and my heart rate immediately climbed to the max. Was kind of happy the heart was working fine but it appears that my blood has thinned from the month of idleness. Once to Odessa I headed upwards again on Ridge Road and it was straight into the wind, the climb isn't really steep enough to give much shelter so it was a continuous grind. I was able to maintain the less than adequate eight point four average I had gotten on the first section to Odessa. Ended up with over six miles of climbing before I veered off onto the Middle Road at Seymoreville. After that the ride became easier as had some fast downhill and a rolling decent into Horseheads with the woods providing some shelter from the wind. Ended up at eleven point seven before turning out of the wind. Wasn't sure if I would be able to get the average up to fifteen down the slot but figured I would try. Ended up flying down the slot aided by the tailwind and maintained an average in the mid twenties and was able to get into the low thirties over a couple of sections. Ended up making the fifteen and felt good although my computer nanny chastised me for overreaching my current fitness level and deemed the ride unproductive. I enjoyed the ride except for the pitiful climbing and had a good time on the bike regardless of the nagging computer nanny.
