Was hesitant of riding outside today as the wind was really whipping, but as I still need to lose at least three pounds before the road trips start in two weekends, it was outside or the computrainer. Since it was seventy and wasn't raining, I opted for a fairly easy course and pace to Sullinvinville. Easy is relative as I really, really suffered last time I rode it with high winds. Started again up the steepness that is Havana and didn't push it very hard and got over the top with minimal pain. I only crested with a seven average which wouldn't be a bad time on the mountain bike, but leaves lots of room for improvement on the road bike. Ride to the junction was also low key as I was afraid I would be destroyed once again in the wind up Sullinvinville hill. Wind turns out to be a little different today as it was primarily out of the south rather than the west. I only went dead into the wind for the last two miles to the Junction and actually had a crosswind up the climb. It made a huge difference, and I probably cut three minutes off the mile and a half climb with much less effort. Rest of the ride was actually quite enjoyable as the next seven miles of downgrade was a cross wind. Had two or three miles more of in my face headwind, but once I made the turn at the five corners in Horseheads it was all sweet, sweet tailwind. Had a pretty good big gear spin going while maintaining a fairly low heart rate and cruised along in the mid-twenties. Ended up finishing over two miles an hour over the last painful attempt with fairly little effort. Well except for Havana which always takes its due of pain. Great day on the bike even without the sun.
