 Six States in Six Days
Had a plan for a blitz through the south followed by a few days of lying in the sun in Florida before returning to NY. Weather forecast for my tour didn't look very promising with the cold rainy system now in TX moving east pretty much in tandem with my schedule. Forecast for today, my last day in TX was for a high of fifty, wind, and showers throughout the day. Got up around eight and looked out and the parking was full of puddles so figured today's ride was out and went back to bed. Got back up around noon and found it to be overcast but the parking lot looked dryish. Put on the cold weather gear and headed south to Cooper with the plan to do an inverted triangle with the base giving me a tailwind since wind was really ripping. Turned out to be warmer than forecast with the temperature being a balmy fifty-eight. I was a bit overdressed but thought I might be using the extra layers as the sky was occasionally drizzling on me. First twenty-five to Cooper wasn't too bad. It is now four lane all the way but it has a good shoulder and fairly smooth surface. The base of the triangle was fairly pleasant too as it was farm to market road with the blistering tailwind. The few dogs that came out to chase didn't have a chance today. Last part of the triangle turned into a sufferfest though. Rain got more frequent and wind seemed to increase as legs wore down. Usually enjoy the rollers coming back up 137 but today had to struggle to get over them. Perked back up a little once I got back into Paris and out of the wind. Sprinted with traffic down the main drag and was surprised by the speed I was putting out as a half hour earlier I thought I might have to lie down alongside the road.
