 Logan\10 mile ITT
It got warm really early so decided to get a morning ride in despite my intention to do a short time trial later in the day. It would seem that the current run of exceptionally nice weather is going to be leaving the area for the next few days. Started my ride with the first attempt at Skyline Drive. Took it easy and it went by without too much discomfort, although it took way longer than usual. Spun easy once over the top and that was fairly easy too with the strong tailwind. Legs felt good on the second climb to Logan and again took it easy to try and keep the heart rate down. Coasted the downhill to Hector and did a little work on the way back to Watkins. The headwind didn't seem too bad. Felt fairly fresh after the ride despite the climbing.

Weather was a bit sketchy for the time trial as while it was still near eighty and really quite nice, rain was expected to move in soon after the start. Didn't feel to great on the warm up to Watkins but wasn't too worried as the pressure of competition was off as I was the only one to show up. I planned on putting in a reserved effort since I really haven't done a time trial in a couple of years and thought this would be a good time to work the kinks out. Headed out into a south wind keeping the cadence high and turned in a slow first mile. Tried to kick it up a notch over the second mile and succeeded turning in a good split time but could not hold the effort and floundered thru miles three and four. The final mile before the turnaround went a little better, but I was hoping to be over twenty and just had a disappointing nineteen after the turnaround. Had good speed in miles six, seven, and eight and thought I could manage a twenty two if I kept the pace. Came around RBI curve at mile eight and hit a light rain and a vicious headwind. Seems the wind shifted when the front came through. Went into the curse at twenty one and struggled to keep it there over the last mile. So ended up failing to meet my modest goal but then again I did have a headwind for seven of the ten miles. Main problem seemed to be failure to get my heartrate up. It lingered in the one forties and I really need it to be in the one fifties to get anything close to a good time. Still I had a good time and feel that I can make some improvement with a little effort.
