 Down by the River
Returned to the road today after a few days of intestinal distress. Had a forty-eight hour period of no food and haunted sleep as I suffered through an unintentional bout of rapid weight loss. Took another day off to catch up on sleep and rehydrate before getting back on the bike. I started off into a fairly stiff breeze and thought I might have to keep the milage very low if I had to push much air out of the way, but the wind disappeared as I got out of suburbia and into the lush green woodland. The trees looked and smelled great and sheltered me from the wind. Kept my speed at fifteen and felt really good spinning the small chainring and thought I could go much faster if I put some effort in. I actually felt lighter today, although most of the feeling may be lightheadedness caused by dehydration, so I rode conservetively and really enjoyed the day. Recent rains have left the rivers swollen and they also smelled clean and refreshing. Lots of people were out mowing grass and barbequing and saw several people wading in sections of the river. It was nice to see people doing summer stuff after my brief return to the icebox last week. Intended to turn back after seven and finish with fifteen for the day, but found a nice backroad and went exploring. Rode until I came to a hand carved plack in the woods that said GO BACK. One thing I find hard to ignore is a hand carved plank sign in the backwoods of Alabama, so I turned and headed for home. Ended up doing a thirty miler and even got to do three or four dog sprints. New job has me limited to short rides for the next two weeks but after that I'll be ready for my four months of R&R. May go out hill hunting tomorrow and see if losing two or three pounds has helped my climbing
