 Back In the Saddle Again
I finally had a chance to get out and wring out the front derailleur. I rode places that are new to me with a lot of up and down riding that gave the derailleur a good workout. It performed like a champ. Now I would say that the motor is due for a total overhaul or needs to be replaced! I rode nearly 26 miles, but was wasted at 6 miles. I took off intending to take Keith Drive to Industrial and working my way to Parkins Mill, but once on East North I forgot until I was long past Keith. So I went on to Cleveland Park and took the Hincappie path to Nicholtown. Then I cut through Nicholtown parallel to Faris until I was across from the Faris entrance to Greenville Tech. I cut through Tech and came out just south of Eastlan Baptist and crossed 291 there. It was two blocks to Parkins Mill then south to the new section of the Swamp Rabbit underneath I-85 and Mauldin Road. I followed the new section through the Greenville Water Authority (sewer plant) and through the Lake Conestee preserve. Once to the overlook I chatted with a pair of cyclists that were walking the trail.

Then I rode above the old municipal stadium to Mauldin Road. I went in the lower entrance to the old ballpark and slowly cruised all through it. They hae installed 4 Little League fields in the old outfield lot. The stadium and field are still intact, but are looking sad. The old main parking lot has been converted to a small lot and a park. That section is mostly complete, but under construction. Most of the work around the old stadium is complete and looking good. Now I'd like to see what they have planned for the stadium itself.

After poking around there I turned onto Mauldin Road and rode it over to Fairforest Way. It is recently finished and goes right by my work. I took it to Lauren's Road and crossed over to the ICAR. It looked like the police were having a K-9 training exercise in the ICAR. I turned onto Ols sulphur Springs and crossed Berdae, then turned onto Woodruff Road. I took it up to where Smitty's used to be and cut across to Halton Road and worked my way to Old Airport Road and crossed Haywood on it. I turned and rode by RWO ore to Lowndes Hill and up by the downtown airport. I stopped at a overlook and watched a plane and a jet land, then watched a plane take off. Then it was back to Lowndes Hill and across to Keith. Once on Keith I realized that I would be around 24.5 miles when I got home, so I turned below Greenville Middle School to kick the mileage over 25 miles. It was good to get back on the bike, but I am out of shape!
