Temperature was a little cool and it was a bit windy for the first time trial attempt this year. Took yesterday off to hide from the wind and didn't ride this morning either as I had originally planned. Started fairly slow and in a moderate gear as I just don't have the legs at present to push the big gear. Figured to ride conservatively on the climb and push on the back nine if I had anything left. Time check at the first mile wasn't encouraging as was down twenty seconds from where I needed to be for a decent time. Tried to pick it up a little, but had little success as was down another twenty seconds after mile two. Did catch sight of my minute man at the second mile and concentrated on reeling him in. Had decent splits from mile 2 to the turnaround and caught my minute man at the turn. He briefly passed me after the turnaround but I re-passed him once I got back up to speed. Kept the speed in the low thirties until mile 8 where the legs started to weaken. Had thought I might be able to salvage a 25 mph average if I held it in the thirties, but fell far short finishing in 25:16 @ 23.8 mph. Only gained another 22 seconds on my minute may who finished with a 16:38. Had a nice steady ride but really need to ramp it up.
