I headed out to go over Paris Mountain from the Greenville side today. On Hillrose I went down the hill too fast and the curve at the bottom of the hill is banked backwards. I knew that I wouldn't be able hold the corner, so once I was doomed I headed into the ditch. The bike went in and up the other side, back down into the ditch, and then out onto the street without crashing. I didn't even come unclipped. Speaking of clipless, this was also the first ride with the SH-56 cleats instead of the SH-51 and the difference is incredible. I wish that I had them from the beginning.
I got hung up by a train at Rutherford Road. Once it passed it was onto the mountain. I thought the climb up the Greenville side was more challenging. It isn't all climbing like the TR side, but there are some very steep places. The GV side is about 4 miles while the TR side is 2 1/4 miles. One place just past Audubon was very steep and I was struggling to keep climbing. I was putting a lot of torque on the hoods and the front wheel came up from the road and scooted over a few inches. I was surprised that would happen while pedaling.
Once at the top I went onto the summit to pray for a good friend that is having a very hard time. I have prayed for her all day, but the summit is a special place of prayer for her and for me as well.
The ride down the TR side was a lot of fun. I rode onto TR, then turned back to Furman to head for the house. It was a good ride.
