Returned to Connecticut Hill to check out some of the trails we scoped out yesterday. It was another cool and windy day but better than yesterday as the sun was out. Started off on a trail I had ridden thirty years ago and that was how I spent a good part of the day- off the bike. Ended up walking up and down the steeper sections as I don't have much confidence in my rusty mountain biking skill set and definitely don't heal as well as I used to. Had quite a few fallen trees blocking the trail as it hasn't been maintained in some time. Was able to ride quite a bit of it though. It ended up tying in to a trail I had found on a mountain bike trail website. Unfortunately that trail was not ridable. Not just by me but by most humans. Steep uphill and downhill sections have been washed out and eroded down to large chunky rocks. On the flatter sections it runs through a pine forest and the trail surface is mainly intertwined exposed tree routes. Ended up walking a couple of miles of the trail without even trying to get back on the bike. Got tired out pushing the bike up hill and through mud and abandoned the ride after coming out on a road. Got a couple of miles of single track in and but then stayed mainly on the road. Didn't get many miles in and spent more time hiking then riding, It wasn't a bad day though as the sun was out and bugs haven't gotten bad yet. Looked for big foot but didn't find him. Will have to find some better groomed trails to hone my skills before more trail riding on Connecticut Hill.
