Ride Description: Checked out the new singletrack. Not too bad. Slow but the ground is soft. And the south end switchback still needs a little work, as it is still a little tight.
HR includes 4 and a half minutes of rest, taking pictures. |

We have 16.06 acres in the back yard, about 8 acres of it is prairie with mowed trails, and about 7 acres are wooded. There's also an old limestone quarry at the south end.
I've been working on building some singletrack in the wooded section this Spring. (Part of the reason I haven't ridden much this year) It's fairly flat back there so I tried to take advantage of any hills or elevation change I could find. I ended up making two bench-cut switchbacks that were a lot of work, but look nice. They are very tight and slow and will need some tweaking. After they get ridden on and pack down they should ride much better.
I cleared a long straight section of old trail that had grown in a bit and connected the new singletrack to it. The mosquitoes will be out soon so I think I'm done building trail until Fall. So until then I think I'll just ride and tweak the new trail and start adding new sections one at a time.
I doubt I'll do anymore bench-cutting, it's too much work. (although it is fun and looks sweet) If I'm the only one riding them, erosion won't be a problem.
There's a cool section at the south end I may work on next. Maybe I'll add some technical trail features with logs, rocks and maybe a bridge. Maybe a short section through the quarry would be fun. But for now, it's time to ride the new stuff.
